Morning After Sunday, September 5, 2010

On the Sunday before Labor Day Monday, I elected to change the format of the show a bit. Usually, I start out low and mellow, weaving jazz and world music into a calming first hour or so. Since this was the de facto last celebratory summer weekend, I kicked it into high gear fairly early. There were some calls "commenting" on this departure from the usual. Duly noted. Next show, October 3rd, I'll be back to the usual easing into the day style.

A few calls, one from a dedicated listener who has an aversion to She & Him that is so strong it may require medical attention. She thought the title, "I Should Have Known Better", should have clued her in on how the show was going to go. I tried to suss out what it was with She & Him (aside from the "bad grammer" as she said) that riled her. It all came back to Zooey Deschanel, it seems. It seemed to strike a nerve that Ms. Deschanel had all these many talents.... I empathized with her and noted that although I love their stuff the whole Marsalis clan hits me the same way. SO MUCH OVER THE TOP TALENT!!! Why not sprinkle some of that stuff on us poor talent-less ones?

Other calls were in regards to Tommy Womack's song and also Anders Osborne & Stanton Moore Trio and their local appearance in West Chester, as was duly noted multiple times during the show.

Labels: ,

Comments:
Ah, but Womack's song is always welcome to these ears. If only he'd drive his Pontiac north of 49 once.
